Sleepy sailor, sleepy star,
sleep is never very far.

The Whispers of Lullabies hardcover glowing on a bed

From the book

“Now the blanket is the sea. Now the boat is where you'll be.”
“Bears are brave the way you are: quietly, and from afar.”
Whispers of Lullabies glowing as a night-light in a child's room

Inside the book

A voyage across the sea of sleep

She cannot sleep — so her pillow opens a door. Her blanket becomes a deep blue sea and her bed a small boat, and she sails out under the moon to an island of bears, where one sleepy bear lifts off to join her. Together they gather five wishes on five golden stars: someone you love, someone far away, something brave, someone who is sad, and one wish just for you. When the last wish is spent, the sea folds itself into sheets and carries her home to sleep.

On every page there are two voices. A four-line lullaby in the exact meter of Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star — sing it or say it, cover to cover — and beneath it a small touch line that turns listening into doing: press the pillow, hold up five fingers, blow a star away. Made for ages 1 to 5, it grows with the child.
